Manual Therapy

Communication.

Like any other professional service, we must first ascertain how we can help you and this comes back to having a good understanding of why you’ve booked in to see us. Most people book in to see us because they have been experiencing pain but some just book in to see us because they feel like they should be moving or performing better, and some simply come in because their trainer told them to. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ but we must discuss what you’re looking to gain from the transaction. If you’ve booked in for the reason that most have, to remedy an issue that is causing you pain. We must discuss this as well. We must be able to be as specific as possible with movements, environments, etc. that trigger your pain. This is why there is a much longer time allowed for an ‘initial consultation’

Orthopaedic & Movement Assessment.

Following an in depth conversation, we usually have a reasonable idea as to what we’re specifically looking for with our testing and we’ll go through a passive orthopaedic assessment, basically just seeing how your body moves. Following this, we’ll take you through a much more ‘active’ movement based assessment. This is honestly the most important part of the entire treatment process because we can really work to refine the areas that we will need to target with the manual therapy, but also what areas we will be looking to remedy with the prescriptive exercises.

Treatment.

Now you’ll get some hands on work done. We like to utilize many different modalities to illicit a neurological change to target specific joints and tissues, to improve ranges of motion, increase circulation and create a better environment for you to heal.We offer your traditional deep tissue massage, dry needling, aspects of active release technique, light joint manipulation and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (similar to Graston technique).

Re-testing & Prescription.

Finally, your therapist will take you back through some active or passive testing to assess how the stimulus (manual therapy) has impacted your flexibility, stability or strength. Following the reassessment, your therapist will take you through some specific prescriptive movements that will be aimed at restoring movement and stability, this is where the long term resolutions will come from.

FAQs

What do I wear to my consultation

Its easiest if you wear shorts above the knee (with underwear) and for women we suggest wearing a sports bra of crop top with simple, easy to move straps.

Does the treatment hurt?

It depends a lot on your individual pain tolerance and experience with being treated. Most clients can feel some discomfort here and there but, If at any point in time you’re feeling uncomfortable, just let your practitioner know and they can adjust the pressure.

Do you offer private health rebate?

Luke doesn’t provide rebates.

Can you fix (insert pain/injury)?

It all depends, but most likely yes, we can provide some form of benefit and/or pain relief. Combined, we have seen hundreds of patients over the 10+ years of professional practise and in that time we have seen and helped with so many different aches, pains and conditions.
At the end of the day, if we see you for a consultation and believe it is out of our hands, we will not be afraid to refer on to a specialist

Where are you located? And is there parking?

We are located full time at Warrior Performance (1 Cawarra RD Caringbah in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire) which has a number of off street car parks available.

When treating interstate in Adelaide, we do not offer off street parking but there are a number of unticketed parks out the front of 128 Wakefield St, as well as a number of paid car parks in the surrounding blocks.

We always recommend allowing 5-10 minutes for parking.

“Luke is a friggen wizard!

Unlike a lot of other massage therapists who usually only skim the top of your underlying issues, he has ways of getting magical results within one session!

I find his treatments so addictive because the benefits are so prominent in my training and my day to day life.

Adelaide people, you must go see this man!!”

— LEE RYAN

“I rate Luke very Highly!

No-one like him in Adelaide, now I need to try and find someone as good as him in Perth”

“After so long trying to find a competent massage therapist, I came across Luke and have had to look no longer, ever since.

The constant grind of heavy lifting means my muscles inevitably tighten up and a tight muscle is very hard to grow.

After a treatment with Luke I can feel muscle groups firing as they never have before. Fascial scraping, intense soft tissue massage and effective dry needling, equals a very painful session but I equate this pain to effectiveness; something I don’t get anywhere else.

It’s comforting to know the hands working on me belong to a very knowledgeable powerlifters, much stronger then myself”

If you take your training seriously-

If you have a ROM issue-

If you have tightness or a sore low back-

If you’re just feeling really stiff and sore through your body-

Luke Shakespeare from Strength Unlimited (formerly Adelaide Muscle Therapies) is your man!!

Safe to say, during my weekly treatments with Luke, I thoroughly dislike him. But at the end of my sessions, I am very happy with him.

Luke’s treatments have enabled me to have far better mobility, a better understanding of how my body works mechanically because of his broad anatomical knowledge and pain relief.

I highly recommend Luke for regular treatments, it’ll keep you in tip top shape and progressing in the gym!
